Mission Statement

The mission of the Egress Theatre Co. is to restore an urgent vitality to the theatre by returning the live performance ensemble to its position at the heart of the theatrical experience.  

The Egress Theatre Co. is founded on the conviction that the theater’s greatest resource for storytelling is the performance of the live ensemble. By reducing the role of technological elements and special effects in its productions, the Egress is free to focus its efforts on the creative collaboration between director, actor, and musician and, ultimately, on the encounter between the performing artist and the audience.

By applying this point of view to the cultivation of its repertory of both classical and contemporary dramas, and its adaptations of non-dramatic works of literature, the Egress crafts extraordinarily imaginative productions that are always essential, immediate, and alive.
